The Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) has invented three types of ventilators to battle the second wave Covid-19 situation. Also, the organization came forward to fetch the technology to industry for clinical use.
Prana (Programmable Respiratory Assistance for the needy aid) is a low-cost and critical care ventilator. It is based on the automated compression of an Ambu( Artificial Manual Breathing Unit) bag.
According to an interest exploration note posted on the website of the Bengaluru headquartered space agency, Prana has a wonderful control system including an airway pressure sensor, flow sensor, oxygen sensor, expiration, and peep(positive end-expiratory pressure) control valves as well as servo actuator.
The ventilation mode can be selected, and the required parameters can be managed via a touch screen panel, and various parameters can be monitored like pressure, flow, tidal volume, and oxygen concentration on the same screen.
The clinician can set the desired rate of the required flow of the oxygen-air mixture to the patients' lungs through the ventilator.
