A 15% hike in salary  among other demands were kept in front of the state medical and health department yesterday from the association of junior Doctors in Telangana. These resident doctors in various government hospitals have threatened to go on strike after May 25th. “We have given two weeks’ time for the government to fulfil our demands which have been pending for over a year. We shall strike work after May 25 and boycott all services, including emergency medical services,” said Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) president Vasari Naveen Reddy. On one hand the Telangana government has imposed a lockdown in effect from twelfth may and on the other hand the doctors have decided to keep such a  demand. Reedy says their contract which reads 15% hike in salary every year has not win getting clearance from chief minister's office for the last 5 months and even after running from post to post they did not get any government response which has left them with the last resort to decide on a strike with a two-week notice to the government.

The association has also asked for priority Covid-19 treatment for healthcare workers and their families. Reddy added, “In several government hospitals, healthcare workers and their family members are not able to get a bed for treatment. The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is always occupied, and we have urged the government to increase the bed capacity. We want the government to issue a circular for free treatment of healthcare workers and their family members.”

Reddy claimed“The ex-gratia of ₹50 lakh for doctors and ₹25 lakh for nurses and supporting staff that was announced [earlier] has not been implemented so far,” so he asked for an insurance for medical students as promised.

Moreover, he mentioned that the strike seems appropriate according to the need of the hour, but they were left with no other option.
