The AAP has nominated an Ex-armyman
Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), declared Col Ajay Kothiyal (Retd) as the party's chief ministerial candidate for the Uttarakhand assembly elections in 2022 on Tuesday. AAP would turn the state into the spiritual capital for Hindus all over the world, according to Kejriwal.Kejriwal, who is in Dehradun for a day,
said the people of Uttarakhand deserve patriots like Kothiyal, who has battled for the country...who still has two bullets in his body...and who has played a key part in the reconstruction of Kedarnath following the 2013 tragedy.“Manish Sisodia [Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister] had visited here a while back to find out who the people wanted as their Chief Minister. Regarding our CM candidate, we conducted questionnaires. And we got a huge response for Col Kothiyal as the CM face,” he said, adding, “So it is the people of Uttarakhand's choice.”Col Ajay Kothiyal (Retd) expressed his delight in the fact that the party has entrusted them with leading it in the upcoming elections.
He claimed nothing is doable if one is determined, recalling his role in the renovation of Kedarnath.“If we want to make a difference in the state, we need to bring the AAP style of governance here,” he said. This model pleased him, so he joined the AAP,” he explained.Later, Kejriwal and Col Ajay Kothiyal took part in the Devbhoomi Sankalp Yatra, a roadshow that ran from Ghantaghar to Dehradun's Dilaram Chowk. In April of this year, Kothiyal joined the AAP in Haridwar in the presence of the party's state unit president, SS Kaler.
The party, which will run for all 70 seats in the state legislature, is counting on his military experience and popularity to help it win. With less than a year till the state assembly elections, the AAP is going all out to court voters. On his most recent visit, on July 11, Kejriwal promised home consumers 300 free units of electricity if AAP won power. He emphasised the importance of duplicating the AAP's Delhi administration model in Uttarakhand. If elected, he promised that his party will make significant changes to the educational and health-care systems.
