Participation in the 16th East Asia Summit, where more than. Indo-Pacific, South turns on C, UNCLOS and terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the importance of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
In his virtual speech, Modi reiterated the principle of Asean kinetics in the region and said India remains committed to strengthening “respect for shared values of multilateralism, rules – based Good national order, international law and sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations”
The summit was attended by a US president for the first time since 2017, with President Joe Biden reaffirming the US commitment to the role-based international order and expressing concern at the threats to that order to east and south. the China Sea and has also raised human rights concerns in Xinjiang and Hong Kong. The two heads of state and government are also said to have expressed concern over the situation in Taiwan, again over China's "coercive measures".
Sources said Modi stressed the importance of having a resilient global value chain and also reiterated India's commitment to provide team-sponsored vaccines to countries in the Indo-Pacific.
“PM recalled India's support of dollar 1,000,000 to Asian COVID-19 recovery fun and raise the idea of developing Global standards on cyber security”, said a source.
The 16th East Asia Summit was hosted by Brunei as President of EASN. The participation was attended by heads of state and government from Asian and other EAS countries, including Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, the United States and India. It was the seventh prime minister's summit in East Asia, the government said in a statement.
“In his remarks at the summit, Prime Minister reaffirmed the importance of ES as the premier leaders-led forum In Indo-Pacific, bringing together nations to discuss important strategic issues. Prime minister highlighted India's efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic through vaccines and medical supplies. Prime Minister also spoke about “ Atmanirbhar Bharat” campaign for post-pandemic recovery and is ensuring resilient global value chain” said the government.
Modi also pleaded for a better balance between economy and ecology and a climate-friendly lifestyle.
“The 16 years also discussed important regional and international issues included indo- pacific, South China Sea, you and CLOS, terrorism and situation in Korean Peninsula and Myanmar. PM reaffirmed “ ASEAN centrality” in the Indo-Pacific and highlighted the synergies between the SEAN outlook on Indo Pacific (AOIP) and India's Indo Pacific oceans initiative (IPOI)" added the government in its statement.
