The 'One Nation, One Ration Card' initiative, which was established under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) of 2013, is a national platform that digitizes ration cards, beneficiary information, and monthly ration quotas, and enables ration advantages to be withdrawn using electronic point-of-sale devices, leading to greater mobility.
The Supreme Court, according to the news agency PTI, ordered all states and union territories to execute the "One Nation, One Ration Card" scheme by July 31. The Supreme Court has also issued a number of rulings, including one requiring the federal government to give migrant workers free dry meals until the coronavirus illness (Covid-19) situation subsides.
Under the NFSA 2013, India distributes low-cost agricultural goods to roughly 800 million people across the country. On Tuesday, a Supreme Court panel led by Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice MR Shah produced guidelines to the central government regarding the welfare of unorganized sector employees, who were among the groups worst impacted by Covid-19's second wave.
The Supreme Court was considering a complaint in this respect, which asked the court to issue directives to the federal and state governments to provide food security, transfer payments, and other social benefits for migrants who were being harmed by detentions and lockdowns around the nation. Activists Anjali Bharadwaj, Harsh Mander, and Jagdeep Chhokar submitted the petition.
The court ordered the central government to intervene on behalf of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to create a platform which will includes a repository for the verification of unorganized sector workers, contributing that this system will accelerate the process of granting those other working people benefits under welfare schemes by July 31.
