The US Senate has passed a measure banning all imports from China's Xinjiang region.

“We will not turn a blind eye to the CCP’s ongoing crimes against humanity, and we will not allow corporations a free pass to profit from those horrific abuses,” Rubio said in a statement.

“We will not turn a blind eye to the CCP’s ongoing crimes against humanity, and we will not allow corporations a free pass to profit from those horrific abuses,” Rubio said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the US Senate enacted a law prohibiting the import of all items out of or made in China's Xinjiang country. The embargo would only be lifted if importers can show that the items were not manufactured using indentured servitude, signifying the United States' latest attempt to penalise Beijing over its persecution of Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities. According to reports, the Uyghur Forced LBA wants the US Department of Homeland Security to compile a list of organisations that collaborate with the Chinese government to repress Uyghurs and other ethnic groups. The measure would create a "rebuttable presumption" that all Xinjiang-produced goods are created using forced labour, and so are prohibited under the 1930 Tariff Act.

“We will not turn a blind eye to the CCP’s ongoing crimes against humanity, and we will not allow corporations a free pass to profit from those horrific abuses,” Rubio said in a statement.

The legislation has full support in the Senate and now must pass the House of Representatives whilst being forwarded to President Joe Biden for signature. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) presented the measure, which they co-sponsored with Democrat Jeff Merkley.

Democrat Merkley, stated that no US business “should benefit from these abuses,” and that no US customers should “inadvertently purchase items made by slaves.”
