'They are more interested if the contestant can polish shoes or not', Abhijeet Sawant says, addressing the makers of Indian Idol
Indian Idol has been at the peak of criticism after the Kishore Kumar episode. Abhijeet Sawant, the season 1 winner of Indian Idol, while talking on Aaj Tak, said the makers are not focusing on music these days; they are more interested in the tragedy of the contestant's life.
"These days, the makers are more interested in whether the participant can polish shoes or how poor he is, rather than his talent. You should watch regional reality shows where viewers may not know anything about the background of their favourite contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, contestants' tragic and sad stories are shown. The focus is only on that," he said.
In the recent episode that raised the controversy, Amit Kumar was asked by the makers to praise the contestants where he felt their singing was not up to the mark.
The makers are more biased to the TRP of their program, and the show's motto goes for a toss.
