Before leaving Kabul airport on Monday, the US military damaged scores of planes and armoured vehicles, as well as a high-tech rocket defence system, according to a US general.General Kenneth McKenzie, the chief of Central Command, stated that US troops "demilitarised," or rendered useless, 73 planes already at Hamid Karzai International Airport before completing the two-week pullout of the Taliban-controlled country."Those aircraft will never fly again... They'll never be able to be operated by anyone," he stated."To begin with, the majority of them are mission unfit.

They will, however, never be able to fly again."When the airlift began on August 14, the Pentagon built up a force of nearly 6,000 troops to occupy and operate Kabul's airport. He said the Pentagon left behind around 70 MRAP armoured tactical vehicles, which can cost up to $1 million each, and 27 Humvees. The vehicles "will never be used again by anyone," he stated. The C-RAM (counter rocket, artillery, and mortar) system, which was used to protect the airport from rocket strikes, was also left behind by the US.On Monday, the system assisted in fending off a five-rocket attack from the Islamic State."We opted to maintain those systems operational until the very last minute," McKenzie added, referring to the last US aircraft leaving.
