Twitter loses legal protection in India for failure to comply with new IT law

If a case filed against twitter for alleged content published, Twitter could be treated as a publisher and be liable for punishment under new IT law, if it’s an intermediary status is taken.

Twitter has lost the legal protection for its social networking service with the new IT rules, reported by ANI.

The news agency said that twitter is the only mainstream social media platform that has not adhered to the new law, quoting a Govt. source.

The microblogging portals top employee, including the nation directors, likewise remain to confront police addressing and criminal liability under IPC.

The advancement comes hours after the Ghaziabad Police recorded a FIR against nine entities, including Twitter India, regarding a where a Muslim man was whipped, and his beard hacked off in Loni.

Police said that a common color was given to the incident without check of realities and said that Twitter never really keep the video from getting viral.

Twitter Chief Compliance Officer

Earlier, Twitter had stated that it has appointed an interim chief compliance officer and details of the authority will be shared straightforwardly  with IT Ministry of India.

That move came after the Govt had given one last chance to the social media network Twitter to agree with the enhanced IT new rules, as the twitter had not made immediate appointment of key staff.

The US-based organization had guaranteed the Indian government last week that it is in the high level phases of concluding the appointment of a chief compliance official, and that it would present all details with a week.

The twitter has an expected 1.75 crore user  in India, according to information referred by Govt, recently.
