Two guys were detained on Sunday for reportedly cutting through the wall and floor of the Union Bank of India branch in Vishwas Nagar, East Delhi, and taking Rs 55 lakh after busting open the iron vault. The break-in was discovered on Monday, and the perpetrators were apprehended late that night, according to the police.
Hari Om, a mason who resides in a nearby alley, was brought in by bank authorities to patch up the holes after the forensic teams had removed evidence from the murder scene. He was also recruited six months ago for some bank maintenance work. According to deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram, he worked as a mason and the custodian of an adjacent under-construction building where the two reportedly dug their way into the bank two years ago.
“Om was well aware of the designs of the two structures and how to enter the bank. He included his friend Kali Charan in the heist they had been planning for the past three months,” the two were apprehended with the use of CCTV cameras and a human intelligence network, according to the DCP.
The majority of the stolen cash has been recovered, according to police, who are questioning the arrested guys to see whether other persons were engaged in the robbery.
