UP government proposes CBI investigation into Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta death
LUCKNOW:- The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday recommended a CBI investigation into the death of Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta, who was allegedly beaten by police during a raid on a local hotel from Ramgarh Tal to Gorakhpur on Monday evening.
Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath made a corresponding recommendation to the central government, said Deputy Interior Minister Awanish K Awasthi in a press release.
Until the CBI takes over the investigation, the dedicated investigation team will investigate the case and move the case from Gorakhpur to Kanpur, the statement said.
The government also ordered the businessman's wife, Meenakshi Gupta, to be appointed Special Representative (OSD) for the Kanpur Development Authority.
The Chief Minister has given Manish Gupta's family an economic aid order of 40 lakh.
