US promises to extend aid to the Indian govt. for battling against the Covid crisis
Looking at the devastating effects that India has been going through due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the United States assured India of providing more supplies and extend support to New Delhi by fielding its ‘top two foreign policy aids’.
Through tweets, US Secretary of State Tony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan ensured and promised to provide the country with all possible assistance to fight against the pandemic. Sullivan also claimed that the Joe Biden-led – government has been working relentlessly to deploy more supplies and possible support to the friends and partners in India for emerging out of the pandemic victoriously. He said, “More very soon.”
As per the assistance to be provided, the US will deploy ventilators and other required medical aids; information is received from sources. However, the assistance will not include oxygen and raw materials for vaccine manufacturing despite the US not needing to stock them anymore, as has already been mentioned by the US Chamber.
After the news of the US not supplying with raw materials for vaccine manufacturing in India got floated through media, it led to huge outrage amongst the public as they claim that this will affect not only the domestic inoculation program’s pace but “has led India to default on its export commitments.”
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Bangladesh is now looking for a collaboration to manufacture Sputnik Vaccines after having waited for the second batch of the Indian vaccines.
However, the assistance provided by the United States to India is hoping to get at least some relief as the former is left with huge spare capacities to help people with. Apart from the US, Russia, Germany, France, and the UK have also lined up to provide a helping hand to India. However, these countries are also believed to extend the support towards the critical care segment and not the vaccine manufacturing segment.
