The Sunrisers Hyderabad have brought in Umran Malik at medium speed as a temporary COVID-19 replacement for T Natarajan for their ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign in the United Arab Emirates in 2021.
Natarajan had tested positive for COVID-19 before the team's game against Delhi Capitals on September 22. Malik played a T20 and A-list match for Jammu Kashmir and selected a total of four wickets. According to an IPL approval, he is already part of Sunrisers Hyderabad as a Net Bowler.
Under Rule 6.1 (c), Franchisees can sign a short term replacement until the original team member is eligible to return to the team's bio-safe environment.
As such, Malik will only be on the roster at Sunrisers Hyderabad until Natarajan is reinstated and allowed to join the roster.
SunRisers Hyderabad is currently at the bottom of the points table. The team suffered one last eight-goal defeat against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. The team meets the Punjab Kings the following Saturday.
