Vir Das Charged with Police Complaint for his US Monologue
A BJP functionary and a lawyer filed a police complaint against Vir Das for his recent video, 'I come from two India's, where he cites the PM CARES funds and the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, where several farmers were killed. The monologue was delivered in the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC on November 12.
Vir tweeted his six-minute clip of his performance, adorned with several rounds of applause delivering his monologue on YouTube alone. It has crossed over 1.6 million views.
After a series of criticism and persecution threats, Vir tweeted citing that he has shown the two sides of the coin, the good and the bad, light and dark which is a part and parcel of every nation around the world. The news he has shared is not a secret. But the entire motive was to strengthen the unity of the people, and still believe in the greatness of our country, regardless of all odds.
The monologue was peppered with Vir saying that we all come from two India's, where every time the information of a tragedy reaches we are to care for the PM, but never it was PM CARES: the central minister was never seen caring for the citizens. He commented on how India takes pride in being vegetarians, but kills those who make It, the farmers.
He was also seen to have delivered a comment on the Indian Cricket Team, 'India bleeds blue every time we play the greens, but when we lose greens we start bleeding orange out of a sudden.'
BJP spokesperson Aditya Jha, and Mumbai lawyer Ashutosh J. Dubey, who claims to be the legal advisor of the party's Palghar unit, remarked Vir's monologue to be disrespectful towards women, and filled with misogynistic sexist comments on women.
Vir Das is seen saying, 'I come from a place like India, where women are worshipped during the day, and gang-raped at night.'
Dubey was outraged for such derogatory comments on the aforementioned issue, and for inciting and spreading hatred against the PM Narendra Modi. He renders it to be a serious threat for the country and its harmony. He claims that PM has been related with fraudulence in the PM Care issue, but he was not aware about it.
Opposition and individuals have also levied support on the comedian through various social media platforms. Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor, and Kapil Sibal tweeted in his support applauding him for uncovering the truth out to the masses. However, their Congress colleague, Abhishek Manu, disregards the video for compiling the nation picture with just the practices of a few individuals. Director, Hansal Mehta applauded Vir for his courage to speak out in the front against the condition of India.
