Virat Kohli Has Chances of Losing Out ODI Captaincy
Rohit Sharma was temporarily requested to represent India as the captain in the recent New Zealand series, taking over from Virat Kohli in 2021.
Kohli, through discussions might lose out on ODI captaincy after his recent T20 World Cup records. Kohli stressed on relinquishing captaincy in the shortest firm format after the World Cup in Oman and UAE.
BCCI plans to talk over with Virat Kohli to pass on his ODI captaincy for him to exercise his full potential in batting and also to ensure that the white-ball captaincy is not split.
According to reports from Times of India, Rohit Sharma might be placed in the position of the captain. But reconsiderations are likely to take place for not having different leadership in 50 over and T20 formats. After discussions with Kohli, an announcement is likely to be uttered.
KL Rahul, Rohit's deputy is likely to take up that role of the vice-captain in ODI formats as well.
BCCI is keen in continuing Kohli's captaincy in Test matches for his responsible position in India's ascend.
On Thursday, it was reported that Rohit will be set off after the New Zealand T20I series. India and New Zealand play 3 T20s and 2 Tests starting from 17th November.
