Volkswagen Taigun, 5-seater has launched in India at a price starting at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Under the India 2.0 Program of VW group, the newly launched Taigun will be competing against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Tata Harrier.
Taigun, with the all new MQBAO-IN platform, will be sold in 115 cities and Towns. With the mentioned price band of Taigun, it will be competing against 10 SUVs including the MG Astor and an upcoming SUV from Honda.
VW claims to have received more than 12,221 bookings on the name of Taigun till August 18. The Taigun will be powered by the TSI Technology and with two petrol only engine options available 1.0L (115ps) and 1.5L (150ps) respectively.
With 6-speed manual gearbox and 7-speed DSG on the 1.5-litre version and the 6-speed automatic and manual gearbox on the 1.0-litre version across five variants. The company claims to have a fuel efficiency of 18.47 km per litre.
In addition, it will be equipped with a 25.6 cm touchscreen infotainment system, wireless mobile charging, cooled glovebox, ventilated seats, rearview camera, up to 6 airbags, hill hold control, electronic stability control, automatic AC.
VW claims that the Taigun has 95% locally sourced parts, which is the highest for the German brand in India. VW is also hoping to hit a production as high as 1,80,000 units per year in a 3 shift module at their Chakan factory near Pune by November.
