World Bank Group President David Malpass congratulated Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday on the success of India's Covid-19 vaccination campaign. The President of the World Bank thanked FM Sitharaman for India's important role in the manufacture and distribution of Covid vaccines. Sitharaman met Malpass at the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC.
President Malpass reiterated the World Bank's strong commitment to India across all parts of the World Bank Group, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
Malpass and Sitharaman also discussed India's efforts on climate change, highlighting the need to increase climate funding for high impact projects in line with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Development Goals.
At the meeting, Sitharaman paid tribute to the World Bank Group for its initiative to increase the credit space for India to improve the availability of funding for development.
The minister also said the focus should be on technologies that need to be put into practice from the laboratory and technologies that require targeted global research to achieve low-carbon growth.
The Finance Minister made three general proposals, including strengthening technology, the infrastructure sector and reforms in the financial sector.
The President of the World Bank also praised India's financial reform efforts and offered the World Bank to organize round tables and provide operational support.
